Shane Zaier Statement

The “Interlocking” series started when I was asked to design a sculpture to symbolize the interconnectedness of generational family. This concept inspired me to create a series with individual circles linked together to create a unique form that symbolizes the family bond. The overlapping circles combined as one can also illustrate that working together, we can create something larger than ourselves. Living through 2020 has revealed how interconnected every individual is on the planet. The interlocking model unfolds from the individual and family into the citizen in their local community, larger society, and the world. Our only hope to survive and thrive is to acknowledge and embrace this interconnectedness and work together towards building a positive future for us all.
