Jane Hambleton_ Awake and Away
Jane Hambleton’s newest exhibition is installed in groupings of paintings, drawings and collages. The title of the exhibition, “awake and away” comes from a vintage children’s book given to her by a friend. Interspersed among the various elements ranging from textured color field squares to collages with bits of printed memorabilia are Hambleton’s exquisite trademark drawings.

As described in the catalog essay by DeWitt Cheng, “The disparate elements, created at different times, under varying impulses, cohere into unified compositions that suggest unknown narratives, the passage of time, and the poignant transience of human life. We are both in the moment, grounded in reality, and, with the flick of a neuron, floating free of constraints in the imagination: both awake and away.”
