Figures in Abstract

March 6 - April 15, 2012

Saturday, March 10 6 to 8 p.m.

Few cities other than New York can lay claim to a movement in art as vital as the 1950s Bay Area Figurative group as pioneered by David Park, Richard Diebenkorn and Elmer Bischoff. The repercussions of that movement and its inspiration to artists remains vital beyond the west coast. The Seager Gray exhibition focuses in on 6 California artists inspired by this tradition, exploring the various ways each artist has found an individual expression - Linda Christensen's interior scenes, Dennis Hare's meaty sculpted canvases, Chris Gwaltney's spacious compositions, Kim Frohsin's gestural poses, Waldemar Mitrowski's mysterious personae and Charles Eckart's forms emerging from the paint.
